Ubirr Rock

Aboriginal culture has survived in Australia for between 20,000 to 50,000 years. This rock art is the oldest in the world (and really hard to photograph).

Mimi spirits are invisible but they taught Aboriginal people to paint some of their traditional designs. Mimis are very tall and thin so they are able to paint pictures in impossible places.

Miyamiya Sickness attacks the bones of people who disturb sacred sites so that their joints become swollen.

Garranga'rreli visited this spot as the Rainbow Serpent. When girls are told about Garranga'rreli, they learn about puberty and how to begin life as an adult. This site is linked to the women's place at Manngarre.
