Nanguluwurr Hands

On the ceiling of Nanguluwurr Gallery, there are lots of hand stencils. There are also paintings of hands in European-style gloves.

Algaihgo is the powerful fire woman who created the world. Her spirit lives on the Arnhem Land Plateau and she kills and burns people who disturb her sacred site. She wears the yellow banksia on her head and uses their flowers to carry a smouldering fire. Algaihgo has four arms.

Namarnde are powerful ancestors that created the world and gave people laws. They are invisible to ordinary people and live in caves and hollows but come out at night. Namarnde call people into their caves and eat human flesh. They have elongated toes and six fingers on each hand. They carry a dilly bag for their victim's liver.
