Katherine River

The Katherine River starts on the Arnhem Plateau, cuts through the sandstone of Katherine Gorge, flows through the town of Katherine, joins the Daly River and then meets the Timor Sea.

The river levels vary enormously with the seasons so the lower sandy banks are flooded during the Wet. We are now near the end of the Dry and the temperatures are increasing to 30-40 degrees celsius during the day. The Build-up has started and soon the dry electrical storms will arrive to herald the monsoon rains of the Wet.
