Jayown Country

Jayown Country is Katherine & surrounds. It is limestone country so the area is littered with limestone caves. There are also lots of gorgeous bloodwood trees and one was oozing blood-red resin. Thirty kilometres south of Katherine is Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Reserve and we went on a guided cave tour. Saw all of the usual limestone formations. The cave is extensive but it only has one entrance so at sunset the bats come out of it to feed. This cave is very hot & humid. The cave system floods during the Wet so landowners pump underground water from the caves.
