Jabiru
Jabiru is a mining town built in the 80s to service
Ranger Uranium Mine. It has been excised from Kakadu National
Park and has its own town council, school, medical centre etc
(and a mobile phone tower). It is the main tourist centre for
Kakadu and offers Aboriginal rock art, Aboriginal culture at the
Bowali Centre, scenic flights, cruises on the East Alligator River,
Arnhem Land tours and mine tours.
I enjoyed the comfort of the GAGUDJU Crocodile Hotel
after the rigours of tramping through the bush to see rock art,
waterfalls etc. It had a bath, and room service, and internet
connection! My favourite meal was a concoction with barramundi
& crocodile and the buffalo burgers were good too.
