A-Bomb Dome

Devastation of the A-Bomb

Before the bomb, Hiroshima had a dual reputation as the military and education town. Approximately 350, 000 people lived in Hiroshima.

The Atomic Bomb Dome is the dominant feature of Hiroshima Peace Park. It was originally the Hiroshima Prefecture Industrial Promotion Hall and held trade shows, fairs etc. Right at the hypocentre of the bomb blast, it was mostly destroyed. It has since been preserved and reinforced to serve as a permanent reminder of the horrors of atomic weapons.
