Cooinda Crocs

The most common comment made by tourists about crocodiles is: "Is it real?"

Then: "Are you sure it's not plastic?"

And then: "Why doesn't it move?"

These prehistoric big lizards are really amazing. They've got their environment all figured out and are perfectly adapted. But they're scary big lizards! Being cold blooded, they are unable to regulate their temperature internally so they have to lie in the water or bask on the bank depending on the outside temperatures. And why waste energy by moving? They don't even blink! But when they do move, it is an awesome sight. They can move faster than we can see so they literally explode into movement. And for such a big animal, they are amazingly quiet and stealthy. They hardly move the water when they float and swim slowly and then they submerge with barely a ripple.

They are very territorial so seeing crocodiles with bits (or full) limbs missing is not unusual. They eat fish, birds, smaller crocodiles and people and will even have a go at drinking cattle & wallabies by grabbing them by the nose and dragging them into the water for the dreaded death roll but apparently they don't need to eat all that often.
