The Aquarium

The walk-through aquarium in the Territory Wildlife Park has some interesting local inhabitants. The bull shark is common in coastal rivers and can happily move up into the fresh water. They can grow up to 3.5m and are one of the world's most dangerous sharks. The freshwater whipray is found in just a few places around the western coastal areas of the NT and Gulf of Carpentaria. Catfish and archer fish are common in the numerous inland waterways of the Top End. Archer fish spit water at insects sitting in trees overhanging waterholes. When the insects fall of the leaves they become a meal for the archer fish.
